IUP in the 2019 NCAA Division II Women's Elite Eight
The IUP Crimson Hawks are the No. 3 seed in the NCAA Division Two women’s basketball Elite Eight tournament being played in Columbus, Ohio from March 26 to 29.
The Crimson Hawks (30-3) defeated No. 6 seed Azusa Pacific, 73-60, in the tournament opener Tuesday afternoon and advanced to the semifinals. Catch IUP in the semifinals vs. Southwestern Oklahoma Wednesday evening at 6 pm, 5 pm airtime on U92.5 FM, U92radio.com and the U92 WQMU app. LIVE STATS
No. 2 Southwestern Oklahoma (34-1) will play IUP in the semifinals after defeating Saint Anselm, 71-61.
The other half of the bracket shows top seed Drury against number-8 Nova Southeastern at 6 PM, followed by #3 Lubbock Christian against #4 North Georgia at 8:30.
Azusa Pacific is 28-6. The Cougars won the West Region, 65-63 over Alaska Anchorage on a buzzer-beater basket by Lydia Nieto. They have five players averaging in double figures, although one of them has played in only twelve games. Savannah Hanson leads them in scoring with 15.7 points per game.
IUP defeated California, 68-60, on Monday night, March 18, to win the NCAA Atlantic Regional and advance to the NCAA Elite Eight, which ends on March 29 with the championship game.
