On Monday night, the Indiana School Board unanimously voted to authorize the district administration and solicitor to start preparations to hold an Act 780 hearing for the future of Horace Mann Elementary School.
In his board president message, Walter Schroth said that the hearing process is “very rote, prescribed process as defined by the PA School Code” and the motion made by the board would be the official start of the process. The administration will set a date for the hearing, and after that, there will be a 90 day “cooling off” period before any motions can be made on the future of Horace Mann.
The hearing will be a chance for the board to hear from the public about some potential uses for the building, or if they want to keep it as a school for elementary students. Schroth added that public input on this is very important.
The hearing will be scheduled during the next meeting on January 22nd.
In other business, the board approved affiliation agreements between the district and Saint Joseph’s University and with Emerson College. Approval on the agreement for Grand Canyon University was tabled until the district receives the paperwork from the university.
