Blairsville Borough Police have announced they are taking part in an effort to keep the roads safe for school buses.
On Wednesday, October 18th, police in Blairsville will take part in Operation Safe Stop along with the Smith Bus Company. Drivers can expect to see police increasing patrols and enforcement at or near school bus stops in the borough, and the bus drivers will document anyone who makes an illegal pass during their routes that day.
Operation Safe Stop is a way to educate the public on the rules of the road when a school bus has stopped. Passing a school bus when it is stopped and has its stop arm extended to pick up or drop off children is illegal and very dangerous. Law enforcement agencies, school transportation drivers, and PennDOT have combined their efforts to raise awareness to that danger.
