The Marion Center Area School District announced this afternoon that tonight’s Homer-Center at Marion Center football game has been cancelled.
Renda Broadcasting General Manager and Voice of the Wildcats Mark Bertig was in the process of setting up for tonight’s video stream when Marion Center officials notified him. Bertig learned the decision was not made by Homer-Center, although earlier today they announced that next week classes would be held virtually so a thorough disinfecting/cleaning of buildings in the campus could be conducted.
Homer-Center principal Jody Rainey had no comment at this time, as he was just about set to inform the team.
Homer-Center has four current Covid cases in the school district, but none are football players. Rainey said no decision has been made on a make-up date. Faced with similar situations, some WPIAL schools have rescheduled games on a Monday and Saturday, but Rainey said no discussions have been held at this point.”
Marion Center athletic director Pam Anderson issued the following statement:
It is the decision of the Marion Center Area School District to reschedule tonight’s football game due to the number of confirmed and suspected COVID-19 cases within the opposing team’s community. Our community’s health and safety is our utmost priority. We do apologize for the inconvenience and disappointment that this may cause our teams and spectators. The game will be rescheduled for a future date, which will be announced as soon as we have that information.
Thank you for supporting the district as we move through these challenging obstacles.
