George Hodak, 94 of Dixonville, died at his home with his family by his side on Wednesday, February 19, 2025. Born in Dixonville, January 31, 1931, he was a son of the late John Hodak, Sr. and Katheryn (Iskat) Hodak. He was the husband of Christine (Wincek) Hodak whom he married in 1964.
George was a graduate of the former Green Township High School. He then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was a talented baseball player, pitching in 29 minor league games in Florida with the Fort Walton Beach Jets in 1956.
George is remembered by many as the sole proprietor of Hodak’s Garage in Dixonville. For many years he worked on, repaired and gassed up cars and trucks for his friends and neighbors, always giving them a warm smile before they drove off, and if they were lucky, a clever joke too.
In addition to being an avid baseball fan, George enjoyed golfing, bowling and playing cards with his friends. He was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who adored his family.
He is survived by his wife, Christine and by his daughter, Kimberly K. (Hodak) Carretti and her husband, Jim, Indiana. He is also remembered by his grandson, Nicholas Carretti, Indiana; brother, Nicholas Hodak, Collins, NY and by many nieces and nephews.
George was preceded in death by his parents and the following siblings: Michael, Peter and John Hodak, Jr.; Mary (Hodak) Mills, Paul Hodak, William (Wasko) Hodak and Stephen Hodak.
Friends will be received Saturday, February 22nd from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM, the time of his funeral, at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home & Crematory, Clymer. Rev. Father James Cairns will officiate. Burial with military honors will be held at St. Bernard Cemetery, Indiana.
