While flu activity remains high across Pennsylvania, the pace has slowed down slightly.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health reports that as of last week, there are 153,350 lab-confirmed cases of flu reported since the start of flu season in late September. That’s an increase of 24,685 cases. 348 flu-related deaths have been reported across the state. The percent of emergency department visits that resulted in an influenza diagnosis remains high, especially with 0-4 year olds and 5-24 year olds. RSV is on the decrease in the state, as there are now 38,009 cases reported in Pennsylvania.
Indiana County’s flu numbers did see a spike over the week. 416 cases have been reported in the county since the start of flu season, an increase of 106 over last week. 83 RSV cases have been reported in the county.
While the state is still seeing a significant spike in flu cases, the biggest totals have been seen in Allegheny County, as they report 12,325 cases overall. That’s close to double the next-highest flu total in Pennsylvania. Other hot spots for the flu include the south-east corner of the state along with Erie County.
