Members of the Homer-Center Interact Club presented the idea of the installation of a peace pole to the school board last night.
The club heard about another group at an Interact district conference in Greensburg about three years ago. It will be an eight-foot aluminum pole with the phrase “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in English, Spanish, Thai and Japanese. Club advisor and history teacher Steven Hall said that the students are behind the project, and they have been raising money to purchase the pole and install it on campus.
The purchase of the pole will be up for approval by the school board next month.
The board did accept the resignation of Gene Raymond as assistant football coach and adding a bus stop at the corner of Yankeetown Road and Greenville Road.
