On April 9th, a motorcyclist crashed after failing to stop during a pursuit by state police.
The motorcyclist, 31-year-old Nicholas Empfield, and his passenger, 40-year-old Amanda Baker, were reportedly fleeing from officers who attempted a traffic stop for reckless driving on Blue Spruce Road, just north of 7th Street. While trying to evade police, Empfield missed a right turn and lost control of the motorcycle. Empfield was taken to IRMC and Baker to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, both with minor injuries.
Empfield now faces charges including fleeing police, reckless endangerment, aggravated assault with a vehicle, and several traffic violations.
