Julia (Petras) Horvath, 93 of Indiana, PA, passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at her home.
She was the daughter of Michael and Mary (Surgent) Petras, born in Clymer, PA, on October 13, 1931.
Julia graduated valedictorian in her class of 1949 from the former Clymer High School. She worked at the Peoples Bank of Clymer for several years and helped in the operation of the family’s well-established grocery market in Clymer, where the help was raised, not hired.
She was a member of St. Bernard of Clairvaux Church. Julia married Julius Horvath in 1954, and they enjoyed a loving marriage of 54 years, and they were inseparable. She was a caregiver to 93-year-old Grandpa Horvath in their home for 13 years, of which the last 3 years he was blind. Later they were to oversee the 15 years of care for a brother-in-law with daily trips to the nursing home. Those were busy days.
Julia enjoyed shopping trips, eating out, and especially loved the time spent with her four sisters, visiting and reminiscing. She personified perfection in her attire, as well as her penmanship.
She was the loving mother of her only son, Michael (Mary Frances) in whom she took great pride, and proud grandmother to Tamara (Joshua) Mosier, and Kristyn (Kristopher) Kapela, and great-grandmother to Ethan and Madelyn Mosier and Kennedy Kapela, who were her blessing, all from Indianapolis, Indiana. Many nieces and nephews also survive her. (She awaited the daily phone calls from Michael.)
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Julius in 2008 at the age of 90, five brothers, John, Michael, Peter, George, and Steve Petras and four sisters, Mary Koches, Ann Steve, Helen Kovalchick, and Margaret Hospodar.
Special thank you to her nephew Terry Horvath and wife Debbie and to niece Marilyn (Dave) Yanoschick, niece, Carol Koches, Dr. Michael Petras, and wife Diane for their loving and extended help, and to niece Marian Semelsberger for the many cards and flowers.
Frends will be received on Saturday, March 1, 2025, from 9 am to 11 am in the Narthex of St. Bernard of Clairvaux Church, 200 Clairvaux Dr., Indiana, PA with her Funeral Mass following at 11 am.
