At a ceremony today at the fair office, Heather Reed with the Indiana Healthcare Foundation, the group that now oversees Mack Park, said White was a great partner with the fair, as he helped the fair board acquire $250,000 in DCED funds to renovate the grandstand in 2001 during his first term. White would also be a fair sponsor, and helped establish the annual cheese auction and a scholarship for a young fair participant, and took part in the annual livestock auctions. Reed said that the group was very honored to recognize White’s contribution to the fair.
The honor was a surprise for White, who says he misses being a part of the fair.
On hand was White’s former chief of staff and current State Senator Joe Pittman. He said that the honor is long overdue, not just for the work done on the grandstand.
The sign will officially go up when the winter weather breaks.
