The River Valley School Board last night took a first look at a policy concerning electronic signatures.
The reason behind the policy is that the district wants to “promote effective and efficient use of electronic communications to conduct business.” Under the policy, an electronic signature must identify the individual signing the document, cannot be altered once the electronic signature is fixed to it, the identity of the signee is capable of being verified through an audit trail and it must conform to all other provisions of the policy. It will also charge the district to create a record system that can receive, store and reproduce electronic records and signatures relating to transactions in their original form.
The policy will be up for a second reading next month, and after that, it may be approved by the board.
Also, the board approved purchasing a public safety app and services from Emergent 3 at an annual cost of $4000, and a one-time setup and implementation fee of $3000. The money for the purchase will come through the bond budget.
The next board meeting will be 6:00 PM on December 4th at the STEAM Academy for the board reorganization meeting.
