State police have released the identities of two people involved in a fatal accident Wednesday night in South Mahoning Township.
Troopers say they were called out at 6:25 PM to the 3000 block of Route 85 in South Mahoning Township for the collision between a Harley-Davidson motorcycle driven by 51-year-old Rory Gittings of Shelocta and a Dodge Caravan driven by 41-year-old Maurice Hayden of New Kensington. The motorcycle was going east when it drifted into the westbound lane and collided with the van head-on. Gittings suffered significant injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Hayden and one of the two adult passengers in the van with him were treated for reported minor injuries. A second passenger in the van was taken to IRMC for treatment.
Assisting state police were the Plumville and Marion Center fire departments, the Indiana County DA’s office, the county Coroner’s office the county’s Emergency Management Agency, the State Police Troop A Analysis and Reconstruction Specialist Unit and Sabo’s Towing.
