Hess was elected in 2015 and started serving as commissioner in January of the following year. In a news release, she said the reason why she was running again was because the county is “enjoying an unprecedented flow of federal and state funds” that can be used for many of the issues she wants to focus on, including the expansion of broadband internet access, attracting businesses, and increasing substance abuse and mental health treatment services among others. She wants to make sure that the funds are properly managed to make sure the changes made with that money are positive.
Hess also said that even though progress has been made, the county is still facing some significant challenges and wants to help address those challenges head-on.
Hess has lived and worked in Indiana County for the past 30 years.
