This morning, members of the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association visited with the Indiana Borough Police Department to present new equipment that will enhance its Criminal Investigative Division.
Through the Latent Evidence Improvement Project, which is a grant of more than $500,000 secured by the Chiefs of Police Association through the PA Department of Crime and Delinquency, Indiana Borough Police received investigative equipment that totaled a little over $12,000.
Some of the equipment that was donated was a crime scene processing kit with equipment that two detectives used during a training class with the association; a digital camera setup; a 4-foot fuming chamber to fume for fingerprints on items used by offenders; and equipment to process DNA from a scene.
Indiana Borough Police Chief Justin Schawl said this equipment will help both local and regional investigative divisions.
Detective Sargent Jeff Atherton said this equipment will add more evidence for court cases.
Ken Zipovsky of the Pennsylvania State Chiefs of Police Association details what the association looks at when dispersing grant funds.
